Prof. Dr. Jens Greinert

Jens Greinert, a Professor at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, leads the Deep Sea Monitoring Research Unit. After completing his Ph.D. at GEOMAR and Christian-Albrechts-Universität and working in New Zealand, Belgium, and the Netherlands, he returned to GEOMAR in 2013. His early research centred on methane-related carbonate and barite formations at seep sites, along with pioneering methods to quantify seafloor bubble fluxes. As Principal Investigator of “Observing Seafloor Methane Seeps at the Edge of Hydrate Stability,” he will deploy the GasQuant-II and BubbleBox landers to measure methane emissions and support analysis of Falkor’s water-column imaging of methane plumes.
