Alain Hubert

Alain Hubert is a Belgian explorer, civil engineer, and founder of the International Polar Foundation (IPF). A certified mountain and polar guide, he built the world’s first zero-emission polar research station, Princess Elisabeth Antarctica.

After earning his engineering degree from UCL in 1974, Hubert pursued a life of adventure, from carpentry in the Ardennes to record-breaking polar expeditions. He was the first Belgian to reach the North Pole (1994) and co-led a 3924 km crossing of Antarctica (1998). His firsthand experience of climate change led him to champion polar science and sustainability through the IPF, which he co-founded in 2002.
